England cricketer Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka due to a torn hamstring sustained during The Hundred.

Stokes sustained the injury while playing for the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred on August 16.

Scans confirmed a tear in his left hamstring, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

Stokes' absence is a significant blow to England, who are already without several key players due to injuries.

The all-rounder is a vital part of the team, contributing with both bat and ball.

Stokes will now undergo rehabilitation and is expected to be out of action for several weeks.

The exact timeline for his return will depend on the severity of the tear.

"Gutted to miss out on the rest of the summer, but the main focus now is on getting back fit as soon as possible," Stokes said.

England are yet to name a replacement for Stokes in the Test squad,

Several players, including Ollie Pope and Sam Curran, are in contention to take his place.

England's Test series against Sri Lanka begins on June 16 at Lord's.
