Passenger Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Syracuse Due to Cabin Smoke
What Happened?
An American Airlines flight from Boston to Rochester made an emergency landing at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport on Monday afternoon due to smoke in the cabin. The incident occurred around 3:20 pm.
The aircraft involved was a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR operated by Republic Airways for American Airlines. There were 65 passengers and four crew members on board.
Response from American Airlines
In a statement, American Airlines said that the flight diverted to Syracuse after the crew received reports of smoke in the cabin. The airline said that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and there were no injuries.
Investigation Underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. The FAA said that air traffic controllers instructed the flight to land in Syracuse after receiving reports of smoke in the cabin.
The FAA said that it will release a preliminary report on its investigation within 10 days.
Recent Incidents
This is the second emergency landing involving an American Airlines flight in recent weeks. On January 25, an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., made an emergency landing in Philadelphia after the crew reported a fire in the cargo hold.
