Carlos Sainz penalised for causing Miami Grand Prix collision

Sainz dropped to fifth after post-race penalty

Ferrari driver could have won race with different pit strategy

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has been penalised for causing a collision with McLaren's Oscar Piastri in the Miami Grand Prix. Sainz was running in third place when he collided with Piastri on the opening lap of the race. The stewards deemed Sainz to be at fault for the incident and handed him a five-second time penalty. The penalty dropped Sainz down to fifth place in the final standings. Sainz was disappointed with the penalty, but he admitted that he made a mistake. "I'm disappointed with the penalty, but I understand the stewards' decision," Sainz said. "I made a mistake and I paid the price for it." Sainz also believes that he could have won the race if he had pitted one lap later than he did. "I think I could have won the race if I had pitted one lap later," Sainz said. "I was catching the leaders and I think I would have had a good chance of overtaking them." Despite the disappointment of the penalty, Sainz is still optimistic about the rest of the season. "I'm still confident that we can have a strong season," Sainz said. "We have a good car and a good team. I'm looking forward to the next race."
